  • How to express feelings in appropriate ways.

  • How to cope with feelings of anger and anxiety.

  • How to start, continue and end conversations and play activities with others.

  • How to tell the difference between friendly joking and mean teasing.

  • How to manage bullying.

  • How to cope with making mistakes.

  • How to handle new situations and ask for help when needed.

  • How to make friends

TAKE ACTION

Take Action is a 10-session anxiety management program for 7-12 year olds with anxiety.

The intervention is designed to teach children: psychoeducation regarding anxiety; how to become aware of their anxiety; calming strategies to reduce anxiety symptoms; cognitive strategies to change unhelpful thoughts to helpful thoughts; how to create a gradual exposure hierarchy to slowly introduce the anxiety provoking situations; who to approach for help; and how to continue these strategies after they have finished the course.

The program runs for 2 hours once a week. The first 90 minutes are for the child to learn skills and the final 30 minutes are to teach the parent how to support the child to use the skills at home.

ASPERTEENS

Asperteens is a 14 week social skills intervention and social group for motivated teens in secondary school (12-15 years) who are interested in learning ways to help them make and keep friends.
